  1. Q 781. Traditional Business Excellence metrics focus on quality, cost, delivery, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. But as AI begins to automate decisions, personalize experiences, and reshape workflows — what new metrics should emerge, and which old ones might lose relevance? Identify one or two existing metrics that may become outdated or misleading in an AI-enabled setup, and suggest one or two new metrics that should be introduced to track real performance and value. The best answer will be selected on the basis of: Clarity and insight in assessing traditional metrics Relevance and originality of proposed new metrics Linkage to Business Excellence and AI integration Note for website visitors - This platform hosts two weekly questions, one on Monday and the other on Thursday. All previous questions can be found here: https://www.benchmarksixsigma.com/forum/lean-six-sigma-business-excellence-questions/. To participate in the current question, please visit the forum homepage at https://www.benchmarksixsigma.com/forum/. The question will be open until Monday or Thursday at 5 PM Indian Standard Time, depending on the launch day. Responses will not be visible until they are reviewed, and only non-plagiarised answers with less than 5-10% plagiarism will be considered for winner selection. If you are unsure about plagiarism, please check your answer using a plagiarism checker tool such as https://smallseotools.com/plagiarism-checker/ before submitting. Some people seem to be using AI platforms to find forum answers. This is a risky approach as AI responses are error-prone because our questions are application-oriented (they are never straightforward). Have a look at this funny example - https://www.benchmarksixsigma.com/forum/topic/39458-using-ai-to-respond-to-forum-questions/ We also use an AI content detector at https://quillbot.com/ai-content-detector. Only answers with less than 45-50% AI-generated content will be considered for winner selection.
  2. Q 700. In many organizations, the teams' focus gradually shifts from 'Manage by Metric' to 'Manage the Metric'. Explain the concept of Manage the Metric. Elaborate on how does it impact customer satisfaction and business growth. Are there any ways to prevent this from happening? 3. Hello, I would like to know that if there are no defects in units used for samples, how could we calculate sigma level for that product? For example In a process 10000 files completed in 3 months and there are no errors in this duration in any of the file. Now I have to calculate the sigma level of this process for 3 months, what method I should use? Please help me. Thank you
  4. Exactly when a process would be unstable? The measurement system analysis is said to be ineffective if total gauge R&R is more than how much? Is it...80%, 50%, 95% or 90%?
  5. Q3. Dashboard, Numbers, Metrics, CTQs, are commonly used terms in the domain of Business Excellence. Here are conflicting views by two Management Gurus - What is your view on this? Is measurement essential for good management? Why? Why Not? What did Edward W Deming mean by his statement? Note for website visitors - Two questions are asked every week on this platform. One on Tuesday and the other on Friday. All questions so far can be seen here - https://www.benchmarksixsigma.com/forum/lean-six-sigma-business-excellence-questions/ Please visit the forum home page at https://www.benchmarksixsigma.com/forum/ to respond to the latest question open till the next Tuesday/ Friday evening 5 PM as per Indian Standard Time. 7. Often I get confused between DPMO (Defects per Million Opportunities) and DPPM (Defective Parts Per Million) ... can you pls clarify and explain when to use what...
  8. Which one should we choose while counting defects and calculating sigma level of a project - DPM or PPM , can we take either of the two ??
  9. Hi I'm looking for a list of metrics that will be applicable in a BPO / back office operations environment. Does anyone have it ready? Pls share with me at [email protected] thanks Mayank Gupta
  10. I would like to initiate a discussion on what are the metrics that can helps us to detect that actual no of defects in the software development process.I would describe the problem here as below : Most of the Project Managers take a call and decide whether to enter the defects reported from customer or not beacuse more the number of defects , the PM may loose their target .So , to avoid that they do not enter the defects in the system.Especially in case of service & maintenance of projects , they would not take the defects saying this defect is not under our scope and we do not own that module or sub-system.So there are lot of human factor gets factored on deciding on the number of defects available in the system and this lead to have the value the metrics that the PM wants .The PM are aware how much to enter and when to enter the defects . If a developer during his unit testing gets a defects he fixes the defect before the final release and since it is detected by developer and fixed by himself never gets into the system as long as the it is done by independent system testing team Therfore the question here 1.How shoould we make the internal system strong so that they are not able to manipulate and the system caputres the correct and actaul number of defects (can we bring some kind of PoKA -YOKE) 2.What are the metrics that can helps us in knowing that some lekage of defects is there( either not entered or not identified ).Are there metrics that cannot be fooled . 3.Are there any measurement statistics which can helps us in preventing such a practice which is so human factored ?
  11. Came across this interesting question today..... My baseline data contains 1000 units. Number of opportunities per unit is 5. A total of 400 units were audited resulting in 500 defects. So what should be used as the no. of units for DPMO calculation? Should it be 1000 (no. of units considered for baselining) or 400 (number of units audited)? Thanks Mayank Gupta
  12. Hi VK, Can you please explain Operational definition? How it is different from Conceptual or Theoretical definition? Regards Anoop Nasa

  14. Hi I am recently trained on six sigma. I have a doubt on DPMO. Why are we calculating defects per million opprtuinites, why not per 1000 or 1 lakh oppurtunities? what is the significance of 1 million here?
  15. Difference between project Y and Project Y metric.
  16. Dear Members, I wanted to know the method to calculate the Opportunity in Six Sigma. For instance,I have an application form that has 20 fields and each field has an opportunity to make error then what are the opportunities.... How far should we go ahead to determine the opportunities for error? Regards, Nieranjan Argade
  17. Hi, Though my question may appear pretty novice, though I wished to confirm certain thing for my project in a service delivery environment for 70 people. The process has a SLA for which we do receive day on day reports. I wanted to know if I can use the data for the same set of people to increase my sample size and calculate Process Capability. e.g. A 30% 1 Jan B 50% C 45% A 42% 2 Jan B 48% C 50% and so on... Thanks, Abhishek T
  18. Hi All, I have a question regarding the calculation of atrition %age. One formula says Attrition=(No of people left/total number of employes on the first day of the month)*100 Second says Attrition=(No of people left/Ave. number of emplyes on first and the last day of the month)*100 Now which is the best and why? Your comments will be highly appriciated! Regards, Sujeet Singh
  19. if My Target of PPM = 1% & I get 1.5% as Actual Than what will be my COPQ = 1.5% or 0.5% ???
  20. When we talk about Sigma Level in terms of metrics, if we know the Sigma Level, we can get an idea of how many defects the process is making. In order to compare different processes that may have different number of units of products or services and different opportunities for making mistakes, we usually talk in terms of DPMO (defects per million opportunities). The following table shows the relationship between Sigma Level and DPMO. For example, if a process is operating at 4 Sigma Level, then if the process has an opportunity for making 1 million defects, this process will only make about 6,210 defects. The above table only provides DPMO for only certain combinations of Sigma Levels. If you are interested in translating any Sigma Level to DPMO or vice-versa, you can use the attached Excel Spreadsheet.
