While tools like FMEA, DoE and Pareto Analysis are used to treat with pain areas or unknown problems, there are methods used to identify them also. VoC and VoP are two methods which are first used to identify areas demanding Six Sigma application. The data used for Six Sigma has to be real-time and credible because the ultimate aim of Six Sigma is to bring real improvements and not merely showing it on papers. Hello everyone, I personally think Manufacturing is one of those sectors which have an obvious implementation of lean principles. Even simple methods like 5 S can bring wonderful efficiency in a process. Regarding Mr Ram's opinion, I think the selection of tools and pain/improvement areas depends on the extent of lean application. While some companies might like to apply lean methodologies around the conveyor belt processes, others might implemet Lean for backward and forward integration including stageslike procurement, inventory, transformation and Work In Progress. Therefore the application of lean principles and it's extent is very much subjective to management belief, production cycle and economies of scale. Kindly give your feedback and opinions.
