March 25, 200917 yr I am working for the past 4 years in a small Telecom company as a software engineer, we have a small setup that usually works fine and since people are not so well versed with this term Six Sigma therefore not very appreciative to such initiatives even on our own, so i think i would be wasting my money if i do this certification atleast for now, rather ITIL, PMP and such courses could help me more which are directly in line with our kind of need, though personally i feel Six Sigma is really a wonderful methodology but somehow can not see the benefits coming in the near future if i do it now. What do you suggest?
March 25, 200917 yr ITIL provides a framework (WHAT) while Six Sigma provides the methodology (HOW) for improvement. Similarly PMP is a project management body of knowledge which can be complemented by Six Sigma effectively. Have a look at the following articles1. Example Six Sigma projects in IT - http://forum.benchmarksixsigma.com/topic/775-example-lean-six-sigma-projects-in-it/page__hl__%2Bdoes+%2Bproject+%2Bmanagement2. Six Sigma and Software development - http://forum.benchmarksixsigma.com/topic/774-six-sigma-and-software-development/3. How does Project Management fit with Lean and Six Sigma? - http://forum.benchmarksixsigma.com/topic/673-how-does-project-management-fit-with-lean-and-six-sigma/page__hl__%2Bdoes+%2Bproject+%2Bmanagement Also the most recognised body in Software Engineering is SEI (Software Engineering Institute) of USA. They have published an article on Six Sigma being as effective as SEI-CMMI. CMMI (stands for Capability Maturity Model Integrated) Here is an article from SEI which is impressive for Software Professionals.http://www.sei.cmu.e...cmmi6sigma.html If you do a cost benefit analysis, the benefits are much more than the costs as Six Sigma gives you versatility - ability to cross industries and be more acceptable in senior roles sooner. Green Belt is considered an important requirement for project managers.
February 3, 201016 yr Hello all In light of the discussion- application of Six Sigma in a small IT venture - I would suggest all participants to see the following. The Six Sigma learning has been effectively used in various IT verticals like Software Testing, Security, IT Asset Management, domain testing. The programme and techniques also help in small IT ventures. To know ‘how' and ‘how well', read the feedback from industry veterans with Six Sigma knowledge.Click here to see the feedbacks.
