Kaizen Kaikaku Kakushin
Ms. Manisha Srivastava replied to Vishwadeep Khatri's topic in We ask and you answer! The best answer wins!Kaizen(Change for Better) Kaizen is a Japanese word that means to break apart to change or modify (Kai) to make things better (Zen). Kaizen is used to make small continuous improvements in the workplace to reduce cost, improve Quality and delivery. It is particularly suitable when the solution is simple and can be obtained using a team-based approach. Kaizen assembles small cross-functional teams aimed at improving a process or problem in a specific area. It is usually a focused 3-5 day event that relies on implementing “quick” and “do-it-now” type solutions. Kaizen focuses on eliminating the wastes in a process so that processes only add value to the customer.Kaizen is evolutionary, focused on incremental improvements. Some of the 7 wastes targeted by Kaizen teams are: Waiting/Idle Time/Search time (look for items, wait for elements or instructions to be delivered) Correction (defects/re-work& scrap - doing the same job more than once) Transportation (excess movement of material or information) Overproduction (building more than required) Over-processing (processing more than what is required or sufficient) Excess Motion (excess human movements at workplace) Storage/warehousing (excess inventory) Good processes bring good results. Go see for yourself to grasp the current situation. Speak with data, manage by facts. Take action to contain and correct root causes of problems. Work as a team Kaizen is everybody’s business =============================== Kaikaku is revolutionary, focused on radical improvements. Kaikaku is a lean production term that means radical change, transformation, a revolution. It means radical overhaul of an activity to eliminate all waste (muda in Japanese) and create greater value. It is a rapid and radical change process. ======================== Kakushin. (Innovation) Kakushin. A third type of improvement known within Lean is Kakushin. The idea here is that some change will form a complete departure from the current situation. It is about innovation, transformation, reform and renewal. ========================== How are the three different from each other? these are 3 different concepts hence each has seprate value of it. Kaizen(Change for Better)= change+good = improvement / continuous improvement Kaikaku =is revolutionary change,Transformation of mind, change+revolutionary = transformation / reform / big improvement Kakushin. (Innovation)= new+revolutionary = innovation / reform / renewal ======================== How do they complement each other? Kaikaku and Kaizen are concepts in Japanese production philosophy that relate to each other.Kaikaku means a radical change, during a limited time, of a production system. Kaizen, on the other hand, is continuous minor changes of a certain area of a production system.Kaikaku is sought in addition to Kaizen, not in place of Kaizen. Kakushin - that is, bigger leaps of improvements. ======================== What would a company lose if one of these as a concept was not utilized? Continuous improvement attempts to reduce cost faster than the market and competition reduce price. Innovation adds value (price, margin, profitability) faster than adding cost, while thwarting the competition at the same time. Kaikaku is Radical Change, where emphasis is on revolutionary change and big improvements. It allows organizations to reform and transform their culture and work habits into greatness via implementation of fundamental changes in the existing production systems. It is a large-scale and wide-ranging activity that is initiated and invested in by the executives and top management. Innovation is continuous renewal, that insures a healthy future for the enterprise. Innovation is the wave that makes the biggest difference - and one that sets you apart from the competition. These 3 pillers are very important for the success of each company hence if any one is not utilized company will lose its vision to success.

CTQ / Metric
Ms. Manisha Srivastava replied to Vishwadeep Khatri's topic in We ask and you answer! The best answer wins!why - Measuring and tracking progress is commonplace within businesses large and small. Growing businesses need close and careful management, and measurement systems are an important way of monitoring progress by giving information about what’s happening now and providing a framework for how you can improve.Hence measurement plays an important role for good management. =========================== why not- Yes its important to run a improvement process basis the fact and data so that it will help in doing the remediation in specific manner. however there are few things which can't be measured but improvement can surely be done if we apply different techniques to resolve it.So effective measurement is essential for good management however only for which we have resources available to measure it.for others for which we don't have resources to measure we work on different strategy to get the effective results.I think also that it’s wrong to interpret Deming as warning against being driven by measurements.there are definitely other options available or ca be found to get good management with out measurements. I think data in its wide spectrum covers the information you do not necessarily have to measure physically or literally put it on the paper. The fact is “data’. You are seeing it, you measure it in your head against a reference, also in your head, and then you analyse it. Upon your analysis you workout s solution and the outcomes is the decision which is the improvement followed by control. We need to manage systems even though we cannot collect data that would be extremely valuable if it were knowable and available. It is True, you cannot measure something that does not exist. Now try again to suggest something which exists that cannot be measured. Even if indirectly there are legitimate proxies to measure intangible things like love, loyalty, fright, pain. ================================ What did Edward W Deming mean by his statement? Dr. Deming did very much believe in the value of using data to help improve the management of the organization. But he also knew that it wasn’t close to enough. There are many things that cannot be measured and still must be managed. And there are many things that cannot be measured and managers must still make decisions about it.

Root Cause Analysis
Ms. Manisha Srivastava replied to Vishwadeep Khatri's topic in We ask and you answer! The best answer wins!Root cause analysis - Root cause analysis is an approach for identifying the underlying causes of an incident so that the most effective solutions can be identified and implemented. It’s typically used when something goes badly, but can also be used when something goes well. Within an organization, problem solving, incident investigation, and root cause analysis are all fundamentally connected by three basic questions: What’s the problem? Why did it happen? What will be done to prevent it from happening again? ============================ A cause may be necessary but not sufficient for a problem to occur. A cause may be necessary but not sufficient for a problem to occur - It can be true as per the statement like to have a rain it needs to be cloudy which is necessary however are the clouds black enough to bring rain talks about sufficiency part. In such situation our focus should be on sufficiency part because untill it becomes sufficient the problem part will not occur.so if we can prevent the sufficiency it will save the problem occurence. ============================== A cause may be sufficient but not necessary for a problem to happen In this situation necessity does not play important role because being sufficient is more important. There could be more than one factor to make a thing sufficient.Hence we should work on all those reason to prevent from happening which can be sufficient for a problem to happen. ==================================== A cause may be both sufficient and necessary for a problem to occur. In this situation both being sufficient and necessary are equally important and they are very much linked to each other for a problem to occur.so to prevent a problem to occur we should work on both the aspects together. ============================================= A cause may be neither sufficient nor necessary for a problem to occur.
