  1. Hi Sandeep, May be these can be included too just a thought ... Brainstorming, QC tools, Cause & Effect , (Rose, Thorn, Bud), RCA, Quality document email examples series (SIPOC, HLPM, DLPM, Leading Metrics, Lagging Metrics, FMEA, Control Plan, Control Charts, etc) Regards, Karthik
  2. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) it emphasises on using machines to do time consuming, repetitive, objective, transactional, and mostly mundane activities which other wise will need humans to do. Since these are repetitive and transactional in nature it would be better structured and can be broken down to simpler process steps. It will tend to replace or shrink the human resources needed for delivery Artificial Intelligence on another hand focuses more on supporting the human resources with analysis and insights which otherwise would be tough for a normal human brain to validate / interpret. Its main focus remains on the aiding the human resource rather than replacing. With the multiple tools available in market primary use of AI is for finding anomalies, insights, simulation, etc. In years to come, RPA will grow but rate of growth will slowdown. Improvement in AI will aide the growth of RPA but the contribution may not be a breakthrough in volume or value. For any RPAs currently work on a stable process/ transactional process. It may not be wrong in totality that AI will lead way for RPA as Analytics and Insights will help define the process and once they are standardized can be used as input for further processing into different interfaces or applications. A fictitious scenario of 2050 or 2100 may be - having the RPAs driving the necessary functions for AI, extract output, post process, etc. However, like it is said... Artificial Intelligence being Artificial cannot replace human brain same way RPA cannot replace AI. RPA will hold a special importance from an delivery speed, cost, and quality perspective but it will eventually slow down once the transactional piece of work is exhausted... it can take over the mass not the class.
  3. For I believe Zero defect is achievable for an activity. This activity would differ from industry to industry. One of the best example of zero defect is USB SLOTS - IT is designed in a manner that it eliminates the possibility of error. It is possible to implement fix with assumption and in a environment which is less prone to manual intervention.
  4. I would thank them for giving me an opportunity to put forth my views on waste. To begin with i would observe and study the process and identify the different steps within the process and tag them as value added, deemed value added, non value added. Categorise the non value added activities into the different wastes (TIMWOODB), eliminate the NVA steps there by eliminating waste associated to these steps. Improve the process to minimise the wastes Example: on a production floor have the plant layout in manner that there is less manual movement there by reducing the Transport Create a competitive environment to ensure continuous improvement there by minimising behavioural waste And so on for each such waste.
  5. Spread shows us how consistent the underlying subject is. The spread would be considered more important where we are comparing two or more objects with respect to it's own average than the service levels or targets. For example A hypothetical scenario.. Two people A and B are appearing for a shooting competition. Person A shoots 10 bullets ranging from outermost circle to innermost circle, averaging around say 7, spread being say 4. Person B shoots 10 bullets and all 10 between 3 and 4. Spread being at .5 If we are to provide some training to one of these player and nominate them for tournament then better bet would be Person B. As he may have issue with the basics of aiming but once he is set with that... he will be more consistent and will achieve better results.
  6. from my perspective... before moving to answer on is measuring essential lets first know what is being measured... CTQ: I beleive quality can be defined as "Quality is what customer perceives". If i was to relate this with Dr Edward Deming' s statement... then I would say.. you do not know what is the benchmark for a metric that is to be measured as quality would mean different for different individuals.. Hence, you need to do away with expectation of audience and create some metrics which your product or service is bound to satisfy. Thus it can be said that even u can't measure the end output you can still manage it's behaviour.. Is measuring essential.. this is indeed necessary for any activity we do. However one thing that needs to be focussed is... measure and compare with itself. After all... excellence aims at continuous improvement in the work we do and outperform yesterday's results and create history today.
