Kaizen Kaikaku Kakushin
Shailesh_Chavan replied to Vishwadeep Khatri's topic in We ask and you answer! The best answer wins!Kaizen: It's made up of two characters in Japanese: kai which means 'change' and zen which means ‘good’. So Kaizen means “Change for Better”. Kaizen is used to make small continuous improvements in the workplace so as to improve quality, productivity, delivery, safety & workplace culture and thereby reducing the cost. One of the most notable features of kaizen is that big results come from many small changes with everyone involved in making improvements. Kaikaku It’s made up of two characters in Japanese: kai which means 'change' and Kaku means ‘to transform or expel’. So Kaikaku (改革), means ‘radical change’. Unlike Kaizen, which is continuous improvement / incremental minor change, Kaikaku means radical change or a great reform to the system normally in the form of project. It allows organizations to reform and transform their culture and work habits Kaikaku is most often initiated by management (top down approach), since the change as such and the result will significantly impact business. Kaikaku is about introducing new knowledge, new strategies, new approaches, new production techniques or new equipment. 10 Commandments of Kaikaku Throw out the traditional concept of manufacturing methods. Think of how the new method will work; not how it won't work. Don't accept excuses. Totally deny the status quo. Don't seek perfection. A 50% implementation rate is fine as long as it is done on the spot. Correct mistakes the moment they are found. Don't spend money on Kaikaku. Problems give you a chance to use your brains. Ask 'Why' five times." Ten person's ideas are better than one person's knowledge. Kaikaku knows no limits. Kakushin It’s a Japanese term which means “Innovation” Kakushin means an innovation & renewal that will form the complete departure from the existing situation. There are times that new revolutionary and breakthrough ideas, products, or services are desired and needed and thus we have to renew our way of thinking and doing and become innovative. That’s where Kakushin comes in picture. Kaizen Kaikaku Kakushin means “Change for Better”. means “radical change”. means “Innovation” is used to make small continuous improvements in the workplace so as to improve quality, productivity, delivery, safety & workplace culture and thereby reducing the cost , Kaikaku means radical change or a great reform to the system normally in the form of project. Kaikaku is about introducing new knowledge, new strategies, new approaches, new production techniques or new equipment Kakushin means an innovation & renewal that will form the complete departure from the existing situation Example, Re-designing of assembly line, implementing 5S Example, Introducing Robots for welding of chasis or in Paint shop Example, Revolutionizing car design by reducing the number of parts which will make mfg. simple & less time consuming Kaizen, Kaikaku & Kakushin are the “three faces of change” any organization need to implement at appropriate stages of busyness cycle if wants to deliver a sustainable high quality product or service and to ensure a steady growth in the global market. Kaizen is essential to ensure employee involvement & empowerment, and make the existing processes more efficient thereby making organization more competitive and profitable To address the requirement of being able to implement changes more rapidly the concept of Kaikaku was born. Kakkushin is introduced so that organization can mould itself as per changing market requirements by introducing innovative product, services, processes. All these concepts need to be implemented together in the organization to maintain its relevance to the customer & stakeholdrs.

Root Cause Analysis
Shailesh_Chavan replied to Vishwadeep Khatri's topic in We ask and you answer! The best answer wins!Means Approach for problem solving Case 1 A cause may be necessary but not sufficient for a problem to occur. - This cause is must for problem to occur but cannot cause the problem alone. - There will be additional cause/s which are necessary & interaction of these causes becoming sufficient for problem to occur. - Find out other cause/s which are necessary for problem to occur. - Check which cause out of these is easy to eliminate & improvement made is easy to sustain. - Eliminate that cause to solve the problem. Case 2 A cause may be sufficient but not necessary for a problem to happen - This cause can alone cause the problem to occur - But there may be other cause/s also which can cause the problem to occur even in the absence of mentioned cause - Find out other cause/s which are sufficient for problem to occur. - Find out which cause is creating the problem most. - Start working on that cause. After eliminating the first one take next cause which causes the problem most & so on…. Case 3 A cause may be neither sufficient nor necessary for a problem to occur This cause is not the main cause for problem to occur - Find out the cause/s which are necessary for problem to occur. - If there is only one cause eliminating it will solve the problem. - If there are more than one necessary causes use approach mentioned for CASE 1. - If there is no necessary cause, find out significant cause/s & use approach mentioned for CASE 2 - If there is no significant cause also check interactions of probable causes & find out which interactions become significant. Then try to eliminate the easy to eliminate causes from each of these interactions to solve the problem. Case 4 A cause may be both sufficient and necessary for a problem to occur. - This is the main root cause for the problem. - There may be other root causes which are necessary for problem to occur but they will not able to cause the problem in the absence of this cause. - Eliminate this cause to solve the problem.

Personal Excellence, Process Excellence, Operational Excellence, Business Excellence
Shailesh_Chavan replied to Vishwadeep Khatri's topic in We ask and you answer! The best answer wins!Personal Excellence involves “producing your best performance irrespective of situation and environment, compete with ourself and strive to be better than own’s previous best.” Steps involved in achieving personal excellence: 1. Self-examination (determining own strengths & weaknesses) 2. Decide targets and set goals according. 3. Skill re-sharpening / skill development 4. Get out of comfort zone and compete to achieve best 5. Check where you stand wrt to goals and run above cycle again Process Excellence is about “process effectiveness and efficiency with main aim of designing/improving processes to delivery consistent positive outcome (i.e. products / services) with minimum variation and no / minimum wastage.. Lean & Six sigma can be used for achieving operational excellence Operational excellence end to end process flows in core and support processes including organisation’s culture in its domain and involves application of variety of principles, systems & tools for achieving sustainable improvement of key performance metrics. It has to ensure smooth interaction between people, tools & technology so that that organization works as a value creation system. Business excellence refers to “outstanding practices in managing the organization including strategy and communication & achieving intended results for all the stakeholders. It is based on principles such as result orientation, customer focus, leadership, people development & involvement, continuous learning, innovation and improvement, partnership development and society responsibility. Various business excellence models (BEMs) are used to achieve business excellence like EFQA, Beldrige, Japan Quality award models. All the techniques used to achieve these different type of excellence are based on the concept of PDCA cyle & continual improvement concept Among above 4, business excellence is the broadest term. Operational excellence is the subset of business excellence. Process excellence is the subset of operational excellence. And personal excellence is essential to achieve all of the other three. Organisation has to pursue the business excellence as it will help the organization in achieving its intended business targets for all the stakeholders. It will guide to chalk down the strategies, goals under various heads (i.e. financial, customer, business processes & employee development) Once business excellence structure is finalized it will provide the guidelines and goals for operational & process excellence. And both these will help in deciding the approach to acheive as personal excellence.
