June 28, 201114 yr Dear Sir,E-learning follows Analyze, Design, Develop. Implement and Evaluate methodology. I am very much concerned about setting up an measurement and analysis system to monitor the quality level of all the processes involved (Storyboard defects, Animation errors, non-adherence to standards etc) for continual improvement. We have formative and summative evaluations to check the errors. How six sigma can be used here. Please let me know if still I am unclear. ReagrdsLogu
July 27, 201114 yr Author hi VK, I am attending black belt training at hyderabad in this august probably under your training. Can i join with benchmark as a trainer because i am basically a faculty of 10 years experience after completion of my black belt? Plz give me proper guidance in doing projects after my black belt. Regards, Ravi.
July 29, 201114 yr Hello everyone, it is interesting discussion. I am also keen to switching over to Educational sector since I am basically now a freelance Behavior Trainer.Best Regards,Col Ravi(Retd).
September 8, 201114 yr Author Hi everybody, I would like to do a GB project in my current working college. I was selected a problem which is as follows. Plz do suggest me for further proceedings. SIX SIGMA GB PROJECT Vignan Degree College, with annual revenue of Rs.1.5 billion, started six sigma initiatives in 2011. College decided to implement ‘six sigma’ to increase pass percentage of UG students in their internal examinations and related admission process. The principal of the college reviewed data about the last three years and found that the pass percentage of 50% of the available courses got less than 30%. The principal wasn’t convinced with the performance of the students and staff members of the concerned departments and therefore initiated a six sigma project to increase the pass percentage. The principal identified a potential project leader and apprised them about the project. The project leader wanted to identify a particular measure which relates to characteristic that satisfies the requirement. Some initial data analysis by the principal showed that 20% of the students are not attending the examination and therefore project leader felt that the % of absenteeism should be considered as defectives with a goal of reducing defective % from 20% to 5%. Also the project leader believed that average time spent by the student for the preparation should be increased maintaining a lower limit of 3hrs/day. If any of these goals are achieved, the college will increase their admissions during the next academic year and increases their revenue to Rs. 2.5 billion. Regards, Ravi
September 8, 201114 yr Dear Ravi, Good to see your post here. The narrative highlights an important pain area for the Institute. My comments are as follows. Choose a CTQ clearly. You may choose pass percentage or absenteeism or preparation time spent. It may not be a good idea for me to suggest the CTQ as you are closer to the problem and likely to know it better. If the CTQ is pass percentage, it does not seem to be a good idea to reach a conclusion on the basis of gut feel that preparation time or absenteeism is the critical X. Data analysis should confirm this in analyze phase. My suggestion is that you should follow DMAIC phases - one phase at a time. Once the project charter is ready, you can consider preparing for next phase.
September 19, 201114 yr Author Hi VK, Thanks for your comment. Here we are facing one problem consistently every year. i.e., there are number of failures in Mathematics subject of University examinations. That's why we are getting a very less pass percentage even we are working maximum time. Can i reduce those number of failures using DMAIC phases so that we can increase our pass percentage? Regards,Ravi.
September 19, 201114 yr Author Hi VK, Can you give me an idea for how to improve placement process in a college or in an institution? Regards,Ravi.
September 21, 201114 yr Dear Kandan,I just came across of your queries today. For e-learning, I would suggest that: Your starting point should always be: Y=f(X1+X2+X3..............+Xn)First, build a large sample of errors/defects (types) and their respective sources (Categories) for a specified duration, for which you've access to.Next, build Pareto Charts for identification of most recurring defect types and which areas (source categories) are showing maximum defects/error.Then take a call, about what should be your first GB Project. If you've time and resources, then you can operate upon 2-3 GB projects simultaneously.Once you receive good improvement via a project, then repeat the pareto and project identification exercise iratively, till you feel satisfied.I believe that you would require a series of GB/BB projects to really bring Sigma level improvement in the overall domain of e-learning, as it is very complex and technical area. With thanks,RK
September 23, 201114 yr Author Hi vk, Thank you for your response. Definitely i will reconstruct the problem and i will send you. If it is OK i will continue for further process. Regards,Ravi.
July 8, 201312 yr Education sector is one of the most dynamic yet inefficient industries... there is a lot a scope for improvements..I strongly feel it is high time we initiate a change.. Came across a couple of good white papers about "Six Sigma in Education industry".. Good read.. http://www.xerox.com/downloads/wpaper/x/xgs_white_paper_dkurt.pdf what is your view ??? Is it time we act ?IJEPR006.pdf
July 8, 201312 yr Indeed a very nice read. I agree with Viswanathan that it is time that we lead this change. This has to happen in future for sure. So it is better to do it soon and learn from our own mistakes as it has never been applied in education sector.I say it is time to act.
