Metcalfe's Law states that the value of a network is proportional to the square of the number of nodes in the network. This is because the value of a network is determined by the number of possible interactions between its users. Robert Metcalfe, the inventor of Ethernet and founder of 3Com, proposed this law in the 1990s.
