  1. Someone asked me how Lean Six Sigma will be put to use in a background check process. Here is the sequence that one may like to follow to identify and complete a project - Identify the biggest business challenges in Background Verification sequences. This could be in Education, Employment or Criminal. Let us say, that the challenge is fake certificates for qualification or employment. Once the biggest challenge area is identified, we will focus on the process. Which sequence is creating a bigger challenge? Is it verification through centralized database or through email verification or field verification? Let us say, the process to be worked upon is the email based verification process. We can now get into Define phase of the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt project. Our problem, let us say, is defined as - Poor response rates in email based employment verification from previous employers of a candidate. The Measure phase will look into our process flow along with past trends and whether our response rate data is reliable. We use certain techniaues for these objectives. The Analyze phase will focus upon finding the root cause of the problem. There can be several reasons why response rate is poor. Some of them are controllable, others are not. We need to finalize our list of prioritized causes using some techniques. Improve phase will require finding solution for the cause verified in Analyze phase. This will be followed by Control phase where we need to ensure that the improved process with better response rate is managed consistently in future. In the background check processes, there are mulstiple areas worth exploring with DMAIC projects. Some examples are - Improving fake certificate identification ability. Improve criminal verification processes through courts and police stations. Improve reliability of social media scanning for objectionable behaviour. Enhance accuracy of educational qualification checks. Improve knowledge base for enhanced results in employment verfication processes. Hope this helps.
  2. Well said, Jayaram. Mark would have responded just like you, if we had allowed him to speak in the Cartoon.
  3. Winner today is Mohamed Asif for his excellent answer. Please read great expert write up by Venugopal as well.
  4. Q 210. Scatter plot is useful to check correlations in two variables. Bubble plot (available in Excel too) is used sometimes to show an additional third variable. Let us explore the Bubble Plot. What are the variants for bubble plots? What are some of the limitations of bubble plot? How can a Bubble plot be misused or misinterpreted? 5. RPA is expected to grow faster with AI getting stronger. Image Analysis and Text Analysis, for example are two areas within RPA that will be more successful as it is infused with Machine Learning capabilities. Reliable Artificial Intelligence can make more processes RPA-ready in future. Large number of processes today are considered unsuitable for RPA because of good percentage of exceptions in them. If Artificial Intelligence can reduce these exceptions significantly, or ideally eliminate them, RPA will become the preferred mechanism for such processes.
  6. Hi Ronaq, this can vary depending on whether Six Sigma is growing or diminishing within the company.
  7. Bench highlights that Customer Satisfaction is linked with Employee Satisfaction, which in turn is driven by monotony at work. Monotony in turn depends on extent of standardization at the work place which increases when more Lean Six Sigma projects are done. If there are more people like Mark, there will be more Lean Six Sigma projects. He expects Mark to join the dots. Any views on this one?
  8. Q 209. Regression testing is a type of software testing that confirms that a recent program or code change has not adversely affected existing features. As a software program becomes bigger, the need for regression testing creates a huge inventory. What are the methods used in the IT world to maintain speed while not losing out on effectiveness? Explain in simple words. Note for website visitors - Two questions are asked every week on this platform. One on Tuesday and the other on Friday. 10. Q. 208. Please refer to https://www.benchmarksixsigma.com/forum/make-this-lean/ Once you have seen the eight checks in the post, visualize how and whether some of these checks can be reduced at the Airport? Without compromising on Safety and Accuracy, how can you make this process as Lean as it can be? Note for website visitors - Two questions are asked every week on this platform. 11. Natwar Lal has provided four different service sector scenarios of Genchi Gembutsu and he is the deserving winner for this question. Do have a look at the response by Benchmark Expert - Venugopal.
  12. Q. 208 While Genchi Gembutsu seems to make perfect sense in manufacturing, how do you infer its relevance in highly intangible services like trouble shooting in Software Development or issues found in e-commerce platforms? You may like to provide more examples of relevance from other service sector. The question will remain open for responses till 8th November, Friday, 5:00 PM IST/ 11:30 AM GMT/ 4:30 AM PST. You may use any sources to frame your answer, however, the answer must be written in your own language. Mention your information and image source, where applicable. 13. I do see some companies asking for domain specific knowledge. Our experience has been largely different. Majority of the global leaders that we have worked with were our first client in that sector. This has happened in several domains - here are a few - FMCG, Shoes, Aircraft, Starch, Soft Drinks, Liquor, Web Search, e-commerce, Fintech, Navigation, and Real Estate Management Services. I have seen hundreds of professionals shifting to highly unrelated sectors, for example, Telecom to Hospitality, Manufacturing to IT, Banking to IT, ITES to Banking and so on.
  14. Bench's company has been working hard and making small cost reductions year on year while Mark's company created a new offering that brought down the cost drastically. Mark's team used the power of DFSS. DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) is a methodology that is used for designing new products and services. This methodology is not very popular as only companies with long term thinking can make good use of it. A small number of our clients ask for DFSS and then make sure they design robust products and services to take a lead in the market place.
  15. Both Natwar Lal and T Jayaram are winners for responses to this question. Natwar Lal has done a good comparison and has provided examples where equivalence testing is preferred. Jayarm has highlighted Two One Sided T tests (TOST) as another term used for equivalence testing. Do read the response from Benchmark Expert Venugopal for additional learning.
  16. Q. 207 As AI gets more powerful in coming years, what will happen to the fast growing RPA? Will RPA be aided by better AI and grow faster? Or will RPA's growth rate slow down?
