Standard Work is a lean principle that helps determine and document the precise procedures and sequence of steps involved in the process. It uses the three elements of Takt Time, Work Sequence and Standard Inventory. Standardized work helps reduce variations in the process thereby improving it.
Work Instructions are very detailed documents that provide key stroke level guidance on how a task has to be performed. Usually it is a document within the broader framework of Standard Work and is intended for use by the floor operators.
