The Originators Vs. The Leaders

Featured Replies

This is synonymous with the great Indian mythological debate:

Who is more important- the live giver or the care taker?

Here the Child in question is not Shri Krishna but a concept called Six Sigma...

And the war is between Motorola and GE.

While Motorola developed the concept of Six Sigma, GE adopted it as a core philosophy.

Who is more important and why??

I think the one who implemented it correctly and completely!

Regards,

Zeeshan

both are correct as per Indian mythology there are 3 paths for natural phenomena Srusthi (originator) rsthith (the follower or the presenter)

Laya (the destroyer)

Similarly, the Motorola is the sr-Stik Artha and GE is the tithe Karaka and both are important

Eventually, Motorola developed the concepts and also implemented (in my point of view concepts comes from experiences and thinking out of the box)

However, GE adopted it and attained success (here The concepts were validated and risk was taken and its copying and implementing Best practices Benchmarking)

Motorola worked hard where as GE worked smartly that's the reality on whole.

Motorola did develop the Six Sigma process and applied it exceptionally well to its production processes..

GE, on the other hand ensured that Six Sigma becomes an inevitable pillar for all the processes...

The major reason why Motorola lost touch is its inability to address the VOC

GE on the other hand ensures that the Six Sigma techniques enable them to address the VOC

I think both have an equally important role to play. As mentioned above, that this is a question which has no definite answer as the debate is endless :)

If Motorola did not introduce Six Sigma, the GE with all probabilities would not have had an opportunity to adopted it as a core philosophy.

Whereas, it is GE who did the smart work and made Six Sigma as an essential methodology in process improvements and opened the flood gates for its application in almost all the domains. You can refer to the following link to see the application in various sectors :

Though Motorola initiated the idea of Six Sigma, for their Iridium Satellite phones, they used only for Manufacturing processes.

they didnt use it effectively in business ie, services, sales and marketing etc..

hence it is not about who introduces first, it is about who does it effectively...
