Creating Cause and Effect in Minitab

Featured Replies

Dear All,

I was trying to create a detailed Fish bone through Minitab however i could not go beyond the second level as there was no way to add further branches and thus create a detailed dig.

Your assistance will be appreciated.

hi ,

first of all let me clarify that cause n effect is a brain storming tool ie root cause analysis ( correct me if wrong )

they r used to drill down all the possible causes for the detected NC . so if u right it down in an excel sheet it is also OK. also please clarify which version of minitab u r working with ........

thx in advance

Dear Shalini,

You may have moved on to the latest version of Minitab since you asked this question. Here is the answer for the benefit of those who are new to this world.

You may create a C&E diagram to the 3rd level, however, beyond that Minitab directs one to create a new fishbone.

1) The main bone labels can be listed as column headers and the second level as items in the column

2) If you want to add a 3rd level, right click on the second level labels and click on "Graph Options"

3) Click on "Sub" for the branch where you want to add the 3rd level. Write the 3rd level bones separated by commas
