Six sigma is a statistical approach for solving problems with relentless focus on customer satisfaction and strong tieâ€in with bottom line benefits. Mumbai Dabbawalas are semi-literate and may not understand the six sigma tools (DMAIC and DMADV). However, they have a record of uninterrupted delivery of their service even on the days of severe weather such as Mumbai's characteristic monsoons, their system depends on teamwork and meticulous timing and mistakes rarely happens in delivery of tiffins. Hence I feel they qualify as an example to understand the benefits of six sigma from the layman point of view.
