Gems is a vast industry and there is always an ever increasing demand worldwide for the

best quality gems like diamonds, sapphires, topazes, ruby and emerald. All

these are amongst the precious gemstones that are the cynosure in the eyes of

potential buyers or customers. These gemstones are prized for their beauty and

perfection and these are the attributes that are of primary value to their

consumers. Lean Six Sigma finds applications in Gems industry by helping in

improving these and other attributes that are of value to the customer. Some of

the Six Sigma applications in this Industry are:

• Optimizing the shape of the crystal (diamond) in order to make it reflect light with fire and sparkle.
  
• Improving & optimizing the Gems Extraction processes
  
• Improving & optimizing the diamond cutting & polishing processes in line with customer needs
  
• Designing effective VOC capturing systems and underlying processes to effectively meet the VOC.
  

Yes Sir,  I am interested to learn exactly about Six Sigma and its applications in the Diamond Industry. With the Improvement in the process efficiency and skill of diamond technicians, diamond entrepreneurs can ensure parallel enhancement in their value addition.  In the age of cut throat competition and wafer-thin profit margins, polishers are bound to concentrate on efficiency level of both workers, processes and also technology to improve the final weight yield of diamonds, its purity, cut grades so to say symmatry and also color to some extent.  In the Recent years, some conscious Manufacturers have shown tendency to offer performance oriented pays and incentives to their workers, deploy advanced technology, improve working environment and so on. But, if these efforts are made in a systematic manner, they can deliver promising results. Can anybody enlighten me further on this specific subject ? If yes, please allow me to hear from you.
