Why did Sergey Brin and his team at Google want to build an eye-mounted camera/computer, codenamed Glass?

Onstage at TED2013, Brin calls for a new way of seeing our relationship with our mobile computers -- not hunched over a screen but meeting the world heads-up.

I can see the this will change the way we think about & use devices, regardless of whether it is ultimately a commercial success. I was intrigued that such a high-tech topic was presented with a hand-held microphone. I don't dispute the contribution Sergey has made, but I think a more passionate, excited presentation would have been more engaging.
