We are doing a project on reducing the electricity units by 5% in few months over existing units.For this how do we calculate the sigma level.

Ex:Total units in Month 2008 is 450134

     total units in the same month of 2009 is 425716

Tools required to calculate sigma level

Can you please mention your problem statement? Once your problem and objective is clear, it shall be easier to visualise the best measurement in your case.

Sigma level is not required for this , this is productivity.

Comparison of the units consumed  to the  last year , you should also compare the  goods produced .

if reqd you can identify the units wasted  and they can be called as DPPM

To keep it simple :

Units consumed last year /Goods produced last year  = Ratio

Units consumed this year /Goods Produced this year =Ratio

the Difference between them will yield the 5% negative or positive reqd.

First of all , u hav to collect all variables which increase the electricity cons. Thn u just collect data for existing power cons. Thn u decide the area OR limit of work...and thn make problem statment very specific...without having primary and secondary data u cant make problem statment...in problem statment u have to define process/dept/product bt u hav to b specific on the problem..otherwise it would nt become problem statment and remain theme of the project only

Steps of the project would b like this

(1) explore current situation on theme

(2) Data collection of Variables(related to theme)

(3) Make a specific problem statment & Quality Indicator

(4) Analyse the Data

(5) Exploreation of Counter Measures

(6) Get Results

(7) Do stadn'on of the process/activity

(8) varify the results and make plan for future improvement
