sigma level clarification

Featured Replies

hi everyone,

i have choosen a gb project.but i am having one confusion.i am getting mean value of a parameter equal to LSL.but variation in data is less so stand deviation is less.so what i have to do now.

please help.

dhruv verma

Dear Dhruv,

Please mention the following for better clarity

  • What is the business case? (why this project is being done)
  • What is the CTQ?
  • What is the goal statement of the project?

Best Regards,

VK

hello vk sir,

project is being done to reduce the rejection of alternators(because alternators are producing low output)

CTQ= current output at 1800 rpm.(LSL = 50 AMPS   USL= 65 AMPS)

GOAL= to reduce the rejection percentage of alternators producing low current output at 1800 rpmfrom 54% to atleast 10% within one month(1/3/2010 to 1/4/2010) which will leads to increase the delivery by 50 perc.

thankx and regards,

dhruv verma.

Dear Dhruv,

The solution lies in moving your current output average of 50AMPS (1800rpm) to a higher targeted value. You need to define this target based on business, technical and cost considerations.  If other factors support, you may like to get an average output of 57.5 AMPS (which is the centre of the two specification limits)

Let me know if you have any further questions.

hello sir,

for the above given data.i have the average value 50.23 amps which is almost equal to LSL.but variation in data is less so stand dev is less,so what can be the sigma value for this.

thanx and regards,

dhruv verma

Dear Dhurv,

Please enter the values in Sigma Level Calculator and get the answer. If std deviation is extremely small, Sigma Level may be good.

VK

sorry to interrupt VK sir

But if the sigma level is good, does it means that we may not need to improve the process? In this case i find (USL-LSL)/6sigma value to be high. And this will do not got change very much if the standard deviation value is low as numerator is constant.

regards

Manish

Dear Druv,

Pl calculate the CPk (not only Cp)& you will find it to be very-2 low and then correlate to Sigma levels. It is a case of center (Mean) shift. You need to adjust it as suggested by VK.
