Lean - 5 S

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Could you please share your thoughts in implementing 5 s in service industry? Basically I am trying to apply this concept for one of the process where team uses the shared mailbox; on day today basis mailbox is flooded with thousands of mails and feed files.

Please let me know is it viable to do such projects, if yes than what should be the approach or steps needs to be followed.

Thanks

-Venki.

Hi 5S can be implemented in services. It is a good idea to implement 5s in the mailing system of the company. It is likely to bring very good benefits.

If you want to do a project on processing time reduction on mail based process (common mailbox), you may do a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt project on Lead time reduction. (Lead time is the average time it takes for an email to be responded). However, a project should be chosen from pain areas of the company or those of customers and not just because of a good idea.

Thank you sir...as a first step I am just trying to put some folder management discipline so that we can have everything in place and as you mentioned I am tracking feedbacks and pain areas from the customers which can be a source for potential projects.

However I am finding lot of issues in 'quality of response' from the operations team.

Thanks

-Venki.
