  1. Dear All, I am starting this topic in order to get expert comments and feedback with respect to the data collection and measurement in human oriented industries, i.e. no use of machines in manufacturing of products. At present, I am working as a Consultant at the Client's Site and studying the areas of improvement in a Sanitary Ware Industry since last 2 months. After a detailed study and discussions with the Client, I came to a conclusion that I cannot start with a SS Project as most of the employees didn't even heard of this methodology, but I can very well use the SS tools for collecting and analyzing the data. So,I have started with mapping the processes and understanding the most important relation, i.e. Y=f(X). So, right now I am concentrating on CTQ X's which can be improved to increase Y. The major roadblock I came across in this industry is the non-existence of machines. Almost 95% of the processes are performed manually and the final product is a result of human skills and efforts involved at different phases of the mfg. process. Also, there is a huge variety of products manufactured and each product has its own defects and mfg. cycle time. Thus, I am finding it difficult to standarize my data collection processes as they differ from product to product & person to person. As it is a well known fact that SS tools and methodology can be applied in any industry, I am ready to take up this challenge and show the improvements that will build up confidence in my abilities. So, kindly provide your guidance for initiating the data collection and measurement process in such type of human oriented industry. If possible, please share your past experiences in similar type of industry. Thanks & Regards, Sarang Bhusari

  6. Dear VK, Thanks a lot. As you said, the most important thing in Six Sigma is to minimize the gap between learning & implementing the techniques. So, after my Green Belt, I will definitely go for some small assignment which will help me in implementing my ideas. I will clarify my further difficulties if any. Regards, Sarang
  7. Dear VK, Thanks a lot for the detailed information. Also let me know that to what extent I can use my Green Belt Certificate & Knowledge in order to switch my career as a Quality Auditor or Consultant. Actually, I don't want to stick only to the manufacturing field. Rather, I want to explore the working of any organization on a much broader level, where in after some years of experience I can land into Consultancy of Engineering & related fields. Could you throw some light on this? Also, let me know whether my thought process is on the right path or not. Is anything else required to achieve this? Regards, Sarang Bhusari
