  1. The last few lines are not clear . Can you explain with praticle industry example where you have used Hypothesis testing tool.
  2. Dear Vishwadeep Sir , I read your response to the question . Feel much intrigued to ask . Suppose we have process currently running on 4.86 sigma , what does this means . Is it Sigma Level (z) or Sigma - The Standard Deviation ? I am in complete harmony with what you said about z which depends on three factors - SD , SL , and Mean but much confounded with difference between Sigma and z .
  3. Dear , I read the opinion of the community members over differences between two methodologies. I would like to elucidate the basic difference that exist between Lean and Six Sigma approach. Six Sixgma as a methodology is more of a Management tool just like we use 360 Degree appraisal . It focuses on reducing variation and can be useful in Quality improvement, Increasing market share . In Six Sigma Project we basically focus on problem where we do not know the root causes and solutions as well. After getting to know the problem , we collect data , Analyse , Brainstrom and find the root causes and reach to the solution till its implementation and control of Results as well. We primarily use high end six sigma tools like Annova, Hypothesis Testing, MSA but which depends on size of project and requirement as well i.e we need not to use ANNOVA in yellow belt Project if complexity is low and financial benefit is quite less. Contrarlily , in Lean Approach we try to eliminate the waste and smoothen the processes by eliminating unnessary steps which are NVA (Non Value Added) and we are already aware about the steps which will not contribute to the vlaue addition . It is more of JUST DO IT APPROACH that we follow because we know the solution . To summarise , Lean and Six Sigma differs in the solutioning aspect . Lean - Soltution is know beforehand and we just need to execute it properly whereas in Six Sigma solution is derived from Data , measurement and application of Statisctical tools . Please respond with you opinion . Thanks and Regards, Rahul Dwivedi
  4. Dear All, I read the opinion posted by most of the blogger , and here I would like to enlighten the issue and my opinion for the no use or apathetic towards six sigma or uninterested approach towards six sigma in few companies. I worked for about 3 companies as consultant and in operations role. The key to deploy six sigma is that top management must be aware of its benefits . Perhaps , the CEO , CFO, VP, AVP , MD these people must be a certified black belt i.e they must have mentored at least 1 Black belt project to know its significance in practicality. It is just like you read lot about six sigma , statistical tools but you have not done any project , then you must not be fully aware of its real benefits Companies like GE has made it mandatory qualification for every one to be certified as BB /GB before promotion . In my role with GENPACT (Erst while) GE Capiltal International Services ) which was earlier a fully owned subsidary of General Electric , I saw each operational head , AVP ,VP a must certified person with BB role. Infact a site administration head was into MBB role for about 18 months before joining as COE head (VP) . Every FLM (Front Line Manager) is required to work on GB, BB Project after training . The organization was quite focussed to inculcated the habits of perfection and smoothness in its operations after coming through the benefits of Six Sigma. The basics was that there leaders are aware of SS benefits and company has made huge benefit from it in the past. The key is that - If the Top Management is well aware of Six Sigma ,has implemented the practice , methodology and generated benefits . Then it is quite easy to adopt practices of SS easily and implement them . However ,it is note worthy that mere awareness is not enough. The key is certification and working in a role with Process Excellence and applying the principles of SS by Management people. Now another question - Why companies do not apply SS even if they speak about SS , Have roles like BB and function - Quality in place ? The key is time value of money , and urgency for results . E.g if you are hungry and want food and you have little money to spend then you would go for buying food and eat it . There would not a second thought in you mind to invest money somewhere to generate results . Now, in another scenerio you have enough money and you are not in dire need for food, then you can invest your little money somewhere to get return. The conclusion is SS needs investment, and return long term results. It is not short term gain technique. While , In business sometimes you need to go for short term gains as per demand and sometimes long term for business . This is the key for business . Hope my point is clear. Please write to me about your opinion . Regards, Rahul Dwivedi
  5. The Question has really an immense power to generate thought provoking ideas. How is Six Sigma Different? What is the uniqueness of the Methodology adopted? Here I would like to elucidate the base or framework for Six Sigma and how it is different. Six Sigma primarily is the structured application of Statistical tools in an already set road map to achieve desired results. However, in Project Management principles we can use different methodology or tools apart from statistics and it involves resource management, time management as well. For example - Let say we need to set up a Shared Service Center (SSC) for one company or outsource an entire business process from overseas location to feasible location. Here we need to think of project.Program point of view and six sigma is just a principle applies here. We need to design processes, understand already existing processes, deep dive in the process to study details, map people work, create SLA, Reverse SLAs that does not come under the purview of six sigma alone. No Doubt Six Sigma is useful in designing existing product, or creating error free product or process and give breakthrough results in the project management. However, it should be kept in mind that Project Management & Six Sigma are complementary to each other and not the substitute Hope the questions are answered. Thanks and Regards, Rahul Dwivedi
