On behalf of Benchmark Six Sigma, Vishwadeep Khatri interviewed K Siva Kumar, who has undergone Green Belt and Black Belt training from Benchmark Six Sigma.
BSS : Siva Kumar, can you share with us details of your career journey till now?
K Siva Kumar: I have 5 years experience in Quality in software sector. Management change and process dynamics were clear issues which were difficult to manage while I was working with quality. With Six Sigma, I have been able to talk in financial benefits language.
As I am working for CMMI Level 5 assessment, we have been using the tools that we learnt during Green Belt and Black Belt quite effectively.
BSS : How about data reliability? Data being unreliable is a key issue in this sector.
K Siva Kumar: MSA is playing a vital part. Different people had different opinions and methods. Data collection for defect type, effort variation, and schedule variation was not very reliable. We have put in operational definitions and people have starting collecting data with better reproducibility than ever before.
BSS: How has Six Sigma impacted your professional life?
K Siva Kumar: We have been using Six Sigma outside CMMI - We use FMEA, control charts, in our day-to day activities. Management is satisfied with the progress we have made. My performance has been recognized well. I am looking forward to career growth in future.
BSS : You have undergone GB and BB training from Benchmark. How was your experience?
K Siva Kumar: When I speak to colleagues who have undergone training elsewhere, I find that training methodology with Benchmark was exceptional. Also Benchmark Six Sigma forum is an excellent initiative. Colleagues from Hyderabad batch were in regular touch and have been sharing learning through forum
BSS:- What career direction do you see for yourself in the coming period?
K Siva Kumar: To grow in the field of quality and Six Sigma and become an AVP quality of some good organization in the coming years.
BSS:- What are your views about industry specific subgroups in our forums? Some people have been supporting them while others do not like the idea.
K Siva Kumar: I think we must have industry specific subgroups. It is good to use industry specific terminology and challenges in our discussions. This shall provide immense value.
BSS:- Thank you for your time and suggestions, Siva Kumar. Best wishes for your career progress.
