I am a web developer from trivandrum, kerala. i am hearing about this six sigma for a long time. Could some one explain me what it is actually and how that would be of use to my career?

Six sigma is a systematic approach to solve the problem and acheive 3.4 ppm rejection level.

DMAIC methodology is used to solve the problem.

D-Define

M- Measure

A- Analysis

I-Improve

C- Contyrol.

Let me explain through a example.

We go to doctor first what do he do, he define the problem (this is problem statement).

Then he measure the problem to know the depth of the problem.

After knowing the depth he do analysis through tests to find out the root cause of the problem because there can be many reason for fever but here aim is to find out the root cause( Real cause).

When he knows the root cause he gives medicines to eliminate the root cause.

When the problem is solved then there is need of control to find out the assignable causes.

Six sigma methodology work in same way,there are many tools for defining ,measuring ,analyzing,and monitoring.hypothesis testing and DOE,control charts which are used in six sigma methodology.

Hi,

I would always recommend "Benchmark Six Sigma" for effectively doing this Six Sigma training. I hope you would have some basic knowledge in quality related aspects (like Metrics, General Process aritifacts.)

You can try to contact any one of the them from marketing department in Benchmark Six Sigma. Prerequisite for the Six Sigma Green Belt should be any person who has interest in quality.

Hai friends ,  I am working in a rural bank branch as BM.  With limited products to market in a rural area, how six sigma principle is useful to our bank branch.

Hi Ravi,

         One needs to understand that Six Sigma is not a substitute for Domain knowledge. Six Sigma as a professional discipline is an infallible work methodology for bringing improvement in existing area of work/business & not a tool for increasing the market/customer base for a product/service. Having said this, one cannot deny that operationg at SS level does enhances the product/service quality with cost reduction/increase in saving/profit & customer satisfaction which indirectly contributes to the respective product/service becoming the first choice at the existing & prospective customers end, which in a way augments the market/customer base.

      Giver your concern, the impetus needs to be more on creating awareness of the products/service on offer by highlighting their salient features which is understandable  by the rural population catering to their needs & requirements from a monetary perspective. Ofcourse, SS methodology can be very well deployed at your branch for improving the efficiency & effectiveness of the various banking operations such as credit evaluation, disbursement of loans, etc, if it so warrants.
