What Is The Difference Between Sampling Plan And Inspection?

Featured Replies

Dear All

While explaining the AQL the inpected defects can be measurable one or can be some times visual  combining of different opinions from person to person.

And also most of the times the accepted AQL between supplier and customer is in practice if both are not the producers of item which will directly go into the market.

If the particular company is producing an item or an accessory which will directly effect its appearance and its taste in the market then maintaining the acceptable standard also become difficult honestly.

Hi Shaik ,

thanks for your posts , i think that sampling plan is the system or can be termed as QA acitivity for producing or manufacturing products fit for use it is not an offline type of stuff INSPECTION IS A PART OF SAMPLING PLAN AND NOT ANY ONLINE KIND OF WORK

HOPE IT CLARIFIES

Dear Bhandari

I mean offline means it can be finishing of the process partly or fully.

So if discovered some problem after finishing of a part of the process and you can set right it then you are inspecting the particular material at that point and initiating action to set right.

Any action which is done to set right at the process stage at the time of commencing can be called as online (the process is not finished not yet). Again it depends according to the industry. The online and offline has more broader derivations as per situation and the kind of industry, at last the final is to have less wastage.

And should not be taken the above explanation is to controll the waste. i have only given the explanation connecting to it.

Hi Ramesh,

Zero defects is a approach, which in practical life, almost impossible to achive. As a good manufacturer we always keep cotrol limits tighter than customer specs and reject the product at our end only if inspected product is out of control limit, to ensure that customer is not getting any product which is out of spec. If we can ensure that product is defect free at 100% confidence level, then inspection is not required.

Hi Mr. Harish,

I want to know that what is AQL ( Acceptance Quality level). & how this can calculate & what is the role of AQL in the sampling of parts.

Hi Ramesh,

How I understand it is, AQL is not something to be calculated. It is your objective, something that you want. The limit of failure that you are ready to accept is the AQL. Once you have decided this, then you can chose your sampling plan based on various standards which gives the number of samples for a given batch size, to meet the AQL, within acceptable risk. What do you do with the samples? You inspect them to check whether they meet your specs. Based on the failures within the sample, you look back at the standard and decided the fate of the lot from which the sample was drawn.

Now, zero defect is desirable. But that does not necessarily mean 100% inspection. There are some inspection processes which are destructive. Then, in the process of confirming zero defect by 100% inspection, we would have no product left for the customer. Here we have to look at confidence level. This is based on past experience and inspection. Here again, to achieve 100% confidence, we have to test the product at different stages. The new mantra is to ensure the process is perfect, resulting in defect free product. But then here, the process has to be tested for correctness at every stage, and that is inspection of the process.
