Hi

I have some confusion on p value.

1. In Normal distribution curve, P value represents data is normal or something else.

If p value >0.05 then we are considering data is normal. why ?

Is it p value and alpha value, confidence level's are interlink.

2. In Normal distribution curve, if p value > 0.05, can we take mean value?

Can any one clarify on this.

3. Why we are mentioning always LSL = N/A or some value. Any reason for not mentioning LSL = 0.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Sir,

p-value > 0.05 means the null hypothesis (that the distribution is normal) is accepted. A p-value < 0.05 means that the null hypothesis is rejected and the distribution is not normal.

Dear Manikandan,

Sanjeev's response is perfectly on the mark.

About the other points that you have raised -

  • Yes, mean and standard deviation can be used for statistical analysis if data follows normal distribution.

  • I presume your question about LSL relates to a situation where specification is one sided (USL is known). Here, if Lower Specification Limit does not exist, we should not presume any value (not even zero). Please remember - for some parameters (like temperature), LSL value can be zero or negative as well.
