Six Sigma Statistical Applications

Featured Replies

Dear All

I have a question related to application of statistics in Six Sigma Project. Do we really need to use statistical analysis? For example, I have done a project to improve the test station capacity.

There are many ways to improve the test station capacity which can be done by improving the test algorithm, reducing  equipment communication access time, UUT access time, waiting time and etc. By doing all this optimization , I have managed to reduce the test time from 80 mins to 60 mins.  So this helps to improve the test station capacity.

In this case, what type of statistically tool can we use or it is really necessary to use the statistic to justify the time improvement.  Based on  test time, there is obsolete improvement.  Please advice. thank you

Hi Barath,

One needs to carry out statistical analysis if it is needed. If you knew the solution and you implemented it, and it is working well, are you trying to relate it with DMAIC or Six Sigma?

The idea behind learning Lean Six Sigma (or Business Excellence approaches) is to have the wisdom to understad what works in a given situation and how to modify our approach, if needed.

Before you use a statistical tool, you should have an objective to use it. I am not sure if you have gone through a DMAIC based program. If not, please go through a training and you will learn about sequences that make business sense.
