What you want to do? Project management or process improvement? 2.5 yrs of experience of what sort? Can you elaborate!

Dear Imran,

One key difference is data driven decision making. If you think you shall enjoy it, Six Sigma is suitable for you.

Second key difference lies in ability to solve complex problems. If you think you want to be known as a problem solver through DMAIC a or DMADV, by engaging others - Six Sigma is for you.

If your focus is on larger projects and managing them (these may be known sequence of tasks with inherent risk that requires on-the-spot or considered decision making), you may prefer PMP at this point.

Finally the interesting bit - Project Managers in project related industries (example - software industry) are required to have both competencies - project management and six sigma. Six Sigma leaders in non project related industries are not required to have pmp competence.

VK

Hi Imran,

Why not both. It will add a a lot of weight to your profile and career.

SS , LSS will help you a lot in operations . Whereas PM will be beneficial on handling new projects. You might end up in a position where you have to do new projects and once its in operation, use your SS and LSS skills to further improvise it.

Hope that helps.

I myself have done the PMP, RMP and GB SS amd LSS and it has helped me a lot.

Regards

I endorse the views of VK. Generally, project managers are required to have both the competencies, six sigma and PMP.

Consider your career goals and long-term aspirations. If you aim for a management role in Telecom/IT, go for the PMP certification. If you want to specialize in business analytics or management, opt for a BB upgrade. Assess which path aligns better with your objectives.
