October 29, 200916 yr Can Process efficiency be measured without data ? A school of thought says yes- example by using a cross functional matrix, process flow digram, one can study the process flow and find out the LOOPING , HANDOVER's ,LENGTH of the process, number of Itirations etc... By doing this, one can bring about changes to the Process. But I feel that theses are objective factors. Unless we have concrete data, one cannot measure efficiencies from the AS IS stage to the TO BE stage. Please comment ?
November 30, 200916 yr If by "Process Efficiency" - you meant the standard definition of "the ratio between the output from the process and the input to the process", Then, the answer is NO... You can not measure the ratio of output to input without knowing the data regarding the output and inputs in the process. But I am not sure whether you used this word in this sense or some other sense!!

This is not a school of thought... You are probably referring to value stream mapping, which identifies the flow of the process and estimates the scope for improvement by identifying the wasteful activities termed as "Non-Value added Activities" and marking them out for deletion. Even this requires Data. You need the data about the times taken, the distances travelled and so on... Does this clarify your doubt?
