Kaizen events are short-term brainstorming and implementation sessions intended to improve an existing process. They aid breakthrough improvements in as little as a few days, while creating a continual improvement culture. “Kaizen” refers to a Japanese word which means “improvement” or “change for the better”.

This is a misconception. While Lean process improvement approaches were developed originally for manufacturing processes, there has been steady progress towards adapting these approaches for use on service and administrative processes. In fact, many exciting breakthroughs are taking place in areas such as software development, financial services, healthcare, etc. Every core lean principle applies just as strongly to other business processes as it does to manufacturing and supply chain processes.
